Leading the classic bass guitar to the highest level of Quality and Performance
About the F-Clef Bass After years spent working as dealers for the "cream of the crop" in the bass industry.We are now proud and excited to announce our exclusive line of American Bass Guitars co-realized with Fodera Guitars When we and our team of selected luthiers started working on the project, as bassplayers first of all, our goal was to redefine the concept of "the classic" bass guitar.For years, many J-Basses inspired instruments have been available, but now with the F-Clef Bass, an instrument capable of combining and accurately emulating the best exemplar of the "classic" basses from the 60's and the 70's now coupled in high quality experienced before only on the finest works of world class luthiery, has finally taken shape! In a nutshell.. here is what we have achieved with our bass from a players's perspective: 1) An absoultely "vintage" sound! 2) Maximum "quality of tone": eveness, clarity and articulate in all registers, string to string balance, sensibility to the bassist playing and dynamics. 3) Superb playbility and comfort: string flexibility.Ultra low action settings, fast and effortless D shape neck profile.
Bringing the best components and craftsmanship by the industry's cutting edge luthiers and sound engineers were one of the keys to create such an instrument:
the woods, selected for each and individual instrument, are naturally aged and come from a hand picked stock billets, to acquire the maximum acoustic resonance in Fclef Basses. We mainly use alder and ash for the bodies, according to the vintage philosophy, and sometimes mahogany on the "Modern" model;
The weight of these woods can vary upon the customer's request: lighter body woods deliver a smoother attack and deeper resonance in the low end; heavier woods deliver faster attack, punchiness and more structured mids. In stock instuments usually come with medium weight bodies. Woods of choice for the fingerboards are Indian rosewood, maple and macassar ebony; we feel that fingerboard is an extremely decisive factor for the final sonic result.:
Any wood combination on F-Clef basses delivers its own character and behaviour, still undeniably keeping the fundamental vintage flavour; check some examples of these tone variables in our Audio Gallery
The Mike Pope passive/active electronics are designed by reknown world class bassist and sound engineer Mike Pope; Mike's approach to designing electronics is that it needs to work in a real world studio and/or gig situation.In passive mode the Fclef reproduces accurately and faithfully the old J-Bass. In active mode, still the passive tone control working on, the preamp keeps an absolutely clean and natural tone when flat; as soon as you start working on equalization, the preamp really shines, yielding an array of powerful and more modern tones without hindering the instruments true vintage bass's character.
The pick ups can be chosen among "Seymour Duncan Vintage Single Coils", that matches the instrument's vintage character perfectly or the ultra-detailed and focused "Aero JJ": no matter your choice, both of these pick ups delivers an extremely clear, hi-defined, and dynamic response that's always very natural and respectful of the acoustic sound of the different wood combinations.
Every aspect of the construction from neck carving to fret job, neck/body joint and hardware components, has been carefully designed, realized and are some of the reasons why your first experience when playing an Fclef is tactile familiarity and quality craftsmanship at hand.
